Plane crashes

Over the entire history of the existence of the Turkish carrier and its aircraft, there have been four crashes during international flights and eighteen during domestic transportation.

Some Turkish Airlines accidents are described below. The first of them happened on February 17, 1959. A Turkish carrier’s plane crashed at London Gatwick Airport. On March 3, 1974, the plane crash of flight 981 in France claimed the lives of 346 people. The cause of the crash was a design error.

On February 25, 2009, a Turkish Airlines plane crashed while landing at Amsterdam International Airport. The crash killed 127 passengers and 7 crew members. The cause of the tragedy was the failure of the radio altimeter.
