Friends, today I want to tell you about how one wonderful, sunny Thursday morning, we went to the beautiful capital of Finland - Helsinki.

Let me start with the fact that I, as a true resident of the city of St. Petersburg, got myself a Finnish visa at the visa center on Marata Street. This procedure is quite simple, the only nuance is to obtain insurance, which costs 500 rubles everywhere, and more than 3 thousand in the visa center building.

After the Finns pleased me with a two-year visa ( kiitos!), I simply obliged her, as they say, " skate". My experience visiting the country of Joulupukki is quite rich, I once flew to Helsinki with my sister by plane for 3 whole days, and then went to Lappeenranta by bus. The latter left an indelible mark on my comfort-loving soul. This time it turned out that I didn’t want to fly by plane, and the reason for “getting a visa” doesn’t involve a plane at all, and I didn’t want to take a bus to Lappeenranta either, because I’ve been to this town many times and, right? Let's say I've already seen everything there.

The Allegro train turned out to be the ideal option in this case. To be honest, I knew about it for a long time, but for some reason it seemed to me that this train was very (very, very!) expensive. When I went to the website rzd.ru, I was pleasantly surprised that if you buy a ticket in advance, about 1 or 2 weeks in advance, then the ticket will cost you about 1800 rubles. (!!! it’s cheaper than Sapsan). Allegro takes 3 hours 30 minutes and its departure and arrival times are very convenient. We chose the train at 11:30 there and 19:00 back.

You can book tickets from St. Petersburg to Helsinki on the website rzd.ru, but back through the Finnish Railways website. The site has a Russian version, so there will be no problems with the purchase. Allegro departs and arrives from/to the Finlyandsky Station, where there is an entrance for them. It is recommended to arrive 30 minutes before the train departs, as everyone’s passports + luggage are checked before boarding.

The Allegro train is very comfortable. In my opinion, better than Sapsan. In Allegro it is less stuffy, there is more space, there is a phone charger next to every pair of seats, and there is a cooler in every carriage. Of the 7 Allegro cars - 1 business class car, 1 restaurant car and 5 second class cars, i.e. only 7 carriages. In the 7th carriage there is a children's playground + also in one of the carriages (I think it's 6m) there are places for cats or dogs to travel (I decided to sign it, otherwise you suddenly decided to carry a crocodile ^_^).

Allegro has several stops, but customs control takes place between Vyborg and Vainikkala station. The convenience is that the train does not stop when passing through customs, but continues moving. The customs officers were very friendly, asked the purpose of the trip and asked to see return tickets. All. On the way back, the Finnish customs officers asked nothing at all ( what difference does it make to them?), but the Russians asked what we purchased and asked to show some purchases and receipts. Somewhere on the Internet they wrote that Finnish customs officers are very interested in imported medicines, but no one asked us. Everything was within the norm, I didn’t notice any particular pickiness or meticulousness. On the contrary, it seems to me that they were somehow more welcoming and “alive.” TAX FREE refunds can also be easily made on the train.

The dining car is very nice, although we didn't sit there. The cafeteria offers a sufficient number of dishes to comfortably endure a 3.5-hour journey. Prices are of course high, but that's to be expected. Tea 2.10 euros, yogurt 2.50, sandwich with egg and red fish 6.90, macaroon - 1 euro. There are breakfast and hot meal options. There was a very nice woman in the cafeteria on the way back!

Full of strength, we arrived in Helsinki at 14:00 Finnish time, 15:00 Russian time. We immediately went to the Fazer cafe (after visiting the Cathedral), which is located on Kluuvikattu. Fazer is a classic cafe, you should visit it. When my sister and I went to Finland for the first time, we stayed in the very beautiful GLO Hotel, which is located directly opposite Fazer. The cafe is very beautiful and expensive. I had a sandwich with chicken, pesto and pickled onions, a banana-passion fruit smoothie, tea and a vegan dessert. Everything cost me 20 euros.

Fazer also has a very nice trade. We visited before Easter - the theme of eggs and rabbits was everywhere. In one blog, a friend read that you should definitely buy handmade candies - so we did (about 1 euro per candy + box + bag).

Next we went to the main street of Helsinki - Esplanade or Esplanadi. Compared to St. Petersburg, there were simply no people there: it was nice, fresh, spacious and the weather was beautiful - paradise! We went to the pier, looked at the fat seagulls, went to the market and went to look for the Louis Vuitton store. I've been saving up for a bag for a long time and now the time has come to buy it. Can anyone guess what kind of bag I bought?)))

Since this was my first personal purchase in LV, it was a little scary, but, fortunately for us, there were quite a lot of Chinese in the store besides us. Our consultant Nadja was nice, but not too much. She showed me two options for bags in stock, one of them had a scratch, so I took the second one. I didn't want her to pack her bag ( Have you already guessed?), so I asked without a box, to put the bag in a storage bag and immediately into the bag. Also, my request to give me an extra pen pouch was granted ( guessed it right). Tax free was also issued and amounted to 13% of the amount.

After such a stunning shopping experience in every sense, we went to L’Occitaine, where we also spent a little money on something very beautiful and fragrant. Next on the plan we had the KIASMA Museum of Contemporary Art. This can only happen in Finland, but it turned out that the museum has been closed for a month to update the exhibition ^_^ but there is a store and a cafe + there is a free toilet in Kiasma.

Because Having some free time, we decided to take a walk to the Orangery, which, naturally, was also already closed. Despite this, we enjoyed the walk. It’s not far from the Orangerie to the station and the last points on the plan were just a supermarket + ALKO and a MARIMEKKO store. These points are not particularly interesting, because... in the supermarket we bought the usual products, such as fried cheese with cloudberry jam, fish soup, licorice sweets (my dad loves them), washing powder and Valio oil, and in ALKO (where I, 32 years old, was asked to show my passport ^_^) we bought mini versions of rum, cloudberry liqueur, etc. purely for gift and culinary purposes. I bought myself pink socks at Marimekko.

Having loaded our bags to the brim, clanking ALKO bottles and smelling of washing powder, we, with great difficulty ( from the heaviness of shopping) went to the station. Fortunately, everything is very close in Helsinki. At the station, which is very different from the Russian one precisely because of its Finnish slowness, we sat down on the path to the ROBERT’S cafe, where, according to my friend, there is very tasty tea ( really delicious! for 2.60 ^_^).

That's all. With a feeling of completely fulfilled duty, a little regretting that we had not seen contemporary art in Finland, we set off on the way back. Boarding a train without prior control ( no one scans suitcases): press the button on the carriage and the door opens - allohomora! The road back seemed even shorter and at 23:30 St. Petersburg time I was already on the escalator in the metro (NB: stood right up to Victory Park!).
